IAMSE Call for Nominations Master Teacher & Master Scholar Awards

At the 2007 annual meeting, IAMSE issued its first Master Teacher Award and Medical Education Scholarship Award. We would now like your nominees for the 2015 awards, which will be presented at the annual meeting in San Diego, California.

The Master Teacher Award honors an IAMSE member who, over the course of many years, has consistently demonstrated extraordinary excellence in teaching, both at his/her institution and within IAMSE. Any teaching can be recognized, but nominations of members who have been active teachers at the annual IAMSE meetings or web seminars are particularly encouraged.

The Master Scholar Award recognizes an IAMSE member who has a distinguished record of educational scholarship, including educational research and/or dissemination of excellent and scholarly approaches to teaching and education. This could include development of multimedia medical educational programs, research in the areas of curriculum design and evaluation, student assessment, or innovative programs and methods.

These awards may be self-nominated, or nominated by an IAMSE colleague. Details regarding each award, required materials, and deadlines are found in the download listed below. All nomination/application packets must be received by Julie Hewett (julie@iamse.org) no later than February 28, 2015.

IAMSE WAS Winter Week 5

PRIME Program at Wake Forest
Presenters: Allyn Howlett

February 5, 2015 12:00 – 1:00 pm ET.

Challenges in medical education are two-fold: 1) schools of medicine are undergoing a trend toward diminishing content in basic sciences, and 2) schools in the allied health professions are attracting a broad range of student backgrounds and professional goals. These challenges are compounded by the emphasis on translational research appropriate for immediate clinical applications or the possibilities of commercialization, in the face of reduction in basic science research support.  We have addressed these challenges in our advanced graduate student and postdoctoral training by providing teaching opportunities that require our trainees to direct their content specifically to the professional needs of the allied health care audience, while employing instructional methods that promote active learning and clinical applicability. By this method, we expect to contribute a pool of academic educator-researchers that can fulfil the needs of future biomedical education.

Have you registered yet for the second session in the WAS Winter 2015 series? There is still space left, so please join us!
