IAMSE News

Dear IAMSE Colleagues,

I’m writing to you today with a number of important updates. First, it is my pleasure to announce three newly elected members to our Board of Directors. Thank you to all who participated in our recent election process.

Wilhelmina Hols-Elders - University Medical Center Utrecht
Kathryn Huggett - Creighton University School of Medicine
Richard Vari (2nd term) - Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine

According to the bylaws changes that were approved by the membership in 2013, the terms for these Board members will begin immediately following the annual conference in June. Your current Board of Directors elected the following individuals to serve as officers from January 1, 2014 – December 31, 2015:

Amy Wilson-Delfosse (president) – Case Western Reserve University School of
        Medicine
Bruce Newton (vice president) - Campbell University School of Osteopathic
        Medicine
Veronica Michaelsen (treasurer) - The George Washington University School of
        Medicine and Health Sciences
Luke Mortensen (secretary) - American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic
        Medicine

I would also like to congratulate Michelle Machado (School of Rural Health, Churchill Monash University), who is the inaugural recipient of the IAMSE Educational Scholarship Grant to support her project entitled, “Anatomy Learning and Retention Among Medical Students: A Cross-Sectional Mixed Methods Study.” We look forward to continue supporting projects of educational scholarship through this grants program in the coming years.

Another new opportunity for IAMSE is the MedU Science project that is being conducted in collaboration with iInTIME (Institute for Innovative Technology In Medical Education).  The goals of this project are to identify the core basic science learning objectives that are most relevant to clinical practice and integrate these into virtual patient learning experiences for students in the clinical training phase of their education.  We look forward to bringing you more updates about this in the coming months. Finally, I’m looking forward to seeing you all at our annual conference in Nashville, Tennessee, USA (http://www.iamse.org/conf/conf18/index.htm) June 7-10, 2014.  Special thanks to our Program Chair for the 2014 meeting, Greg Smith (Saint Louis University), and to Vanderbilt University, our site host.

Regards,
Amy
