The 18th annual International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) meeting will be held at the Sheraton Music City Hotel in Nashville Tennessee from June 7 10th, 2014. This annual event brings together medical educators from around the world to attend and participate in preconference workshops, plenary sessions, focus sessions, poster sessions, eDemos, panel discussions and social activities. Our attendees include faculty, staff and administrators from Allopathic & Osteopathic Schools of Medicine, Schools of Nursing, Veterinary Schools, Schools of Allied Health, Schools of Public Health and Schools of Alternative Medicine.
The following plenary sessions have been confirmed for this meeting:
- David Pederson, M.Ed. "Reframing Undergraduate Medical Education-Leveraging Emerging Clinical Technologies to Prepare Tomorrow's Physicians. David's session will include the use of simulation, ultrasound and robotic surgery to engage tomorrow's physicians.
- Linda Norman, DSN, RN, FAAN "Inter-Professional Education (IPE): Synchronous, Asynchronous, Clinical Practice, Simulation Across Disciplines, Across Universities". Linda's session is an interesting twist on Interprofessional Education that not only encompasses IPE within Vanderbilt university but this novel program also promotes IPE between universities.
- Karen Cornell, D.V.M. "Providing Effective Feedback to Students and Colleagues". Karen's session will stress the importance of good communication skills and how to handle difficult conversations.
- Nikki Woods, Ph.D. "Cognitive Connections: Making the Case for Integrated Basic Sciences" This session will focus on how physicians utilize foundational sciences to assist in their clinical reasoning and decision making.
- We will end our meeting with an interactive session led by John Pelley, Ph.D. John's session entitled "Making Active Learning Effective" will address new ways to engage students outside of didacticlectures.
